Can't open my files in Android Studio 4.0

I've just upgraded to Android Studio 4.0.1 on Windows and I now can't open any source file when I double click on them. The text editor windows space is grey and just says "Search Everywhere Double Shift etc..."

I know the files are there as I can right click on them and then click Show In Explorer

Am I missing something obvious here.....?

Also, clicking on the SDK Manager button does nothing now, and when I open the Project Structure dialog box and make any changes the OK button has no effect.

Is Android Studio completely broken?
