Root Can't permanently root my Samsung Galaxy Portal

Hi, A newby here,

I've been trying to root my Galaxy Portal so that I can use Link2sd but when my phone re boots the root is gone.

I believe this is because I'm on 3 who use something called a NAND lock which resets the OS on reboot.

I have partitioned my SD card but when temporarily rooted I get a message saying that my system does not recognise .ext 3 try FAT32 but I can't reformat the partition to FAT32.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)
 
You might want to just google "remove nand lock i5700" or something similar. My phone is on T-Mobile so i just used odin with no trouble.
 
Thanks for that, I've done it now using Odin. No sweat, am now using link2sd and everything OK. I was trying to do it with z4root before, obviously a mistake.

I have a problem now though. I stupidly removed some pre loaded apps that I don't use and now, although I can get the market, I can't download apps! It says downloading and stays there.

Any suggestions ?
 
That sounds like it might possibly be the google email issue.

If your original google email ended as googlemail.com you might have to log into it on a PC and change it to gmail.com Apparently this cant be done on a phone.

If its not that, then im not too sure. As your rooted, you could try a kitchen mod, (Cynogen, spicagen, samdroid) atm im on a samdroid 2.1 mod that i kitchened on another forum (use google) and its stable. This 'May' fix your problem, but you will have to flash your phone which will wipe it entirely, again. try the google email thing first bud.

It wasn't a gmail issue but I did try a kitchen mod which works fine.

Its seems a little unstable (sometimes I have to reinstall apps), I get the odd weird error message but basically works great, I've got live wallpaper now, I use link2sd fine etc etc..:)
 
I'm happy your sorted now fella.

I've since redone mine to use cynogen 8.4 (2.2) got a few nice tweeks over 2.1, loving it. :D
 
I've done that too now and initially it looked great. I've one big problem though. Can't play some of my videos now and youtube is very poor playback too!

Seriously thinking of going back to 2.1 as I see from other forums that other people are having similar problems.

Shame though as it works great otherwise.:confused:
 
Did you install the intercept 3D drivers through recovery? that should help if you have not already, but I do find that some games still give me white squares/rectangles after a while.
 
They are just the graphics drivers taken from the intercept phone (i think?) And modded to run on the portal as the two phones run the same chipset as I understand it.

Or if you like I can put them on my server for you to download, but it wont be for another 7 hours at the earliest.

As i said, just download, copy to phones sd card, and install through recovery.

You might need to wipe devlik cache after install, but try without.
 
Thanks for that, actually I found them on a samdroid forum. It was posted as a fix so must have been a common problem. Phones working great now.

I use go launcher as my launcher, seems quite nifty and is available on the market.

No worries fella, I try. I'm using launcher pro, does the job for me, seems quite popular too. Must admit I've not tried Go launcher yet.

Hope you enjoy your new froyo freedom, cynogen is especially nice once you explore it's vast options. Don't forget to go into recovery and make yourself a backup ;)
