Help can't receive emoji's

I have a moto x, I can send emoji's but can't receive them. When I get them they are translated to a jumble of symbols how do I fix this?? I have also tried other SMS apps and still hasn't fix this. Please help thank you
 
Are you rooted and some android emojis are not compatible with other devices software I an on 5.0.2 custom ROM I sent some to a friend and he just see emj I can get some of his and he is 4.4.2 yes he is lazy to update his device . but his text come in fast without any problem just the emojis . ;)

I have no idea what rooted means haha and my bro whom has the same phone gets everyone else's emojis but can find what is wrong with mine I see their normal text just not the emoji part my phone I believe is a 4.4.2

Did you install any special keyboards such as swift or google

No I just tried a drifferent SMS app although like I have emojis that came on my phone and it reads them fine so what does the swift do exactly? Lol you probably think I'm really stupid :)

No I say your very smart you tried some apps and also know what emojis are some people say the funny faces . :confused::eek: so I give you much credit and say you done your homework

Haha well thank you I'm having my friend send me some emojis so let's hope the app works

It won't let me send a message unless they have the app haha Oh well there just emojis it kind of sucks that I won't be able to see them when I get them but not a big deal I don't think I can try anything else :)
 
So when I was trying to use the swift key or things like that do you think it would have worked better with me using it with the original sms that came with my phone? Or does that not matter

I tried that one as well and the messages still had the same problem I couldn't see them and the worst part is the moto x can't be rooted as I found out while googling how to fix this
