Can't receive sms on new phone

Bought the ZTE Lever. I like the phone overall, but for some reason I can't receive sms messages. If you add an attachment to it, I receive it, but text alone doesn't work. I can send messages no problem. Another thing I've noticed is that data connectivity switches off and I have to call tech support to get them to "fix" it, only to see it switch off again a few days later. Rebooting doesn't help, factory reset doesn't help, reinserting the sim doesn't help. Something needs to happen on ST's end, presumably, but their tech support is awful. They just tell me to do the same things I've already tried and ignore any of my suggestions to try something different. Finally they told me to just return the phone, and I might, but I'd like to try to fix it first, as it seems more like a network communication problem, than it does a hardware (defect) problem.

Send an e-mail to ST.CorpResolutionTeam@straighttalk.com.

Give them the IMEI/MEID number of the ZTE Lever, the phone number it has and explain the problem in detail.

I once lost the CDMA data on my ZTE Majesty, e-mailed the same info to the above address and with a few e-mail exchanges (this was during the week in the morning (Eastern time)), the data was up and running again in less than 15 minutes. Haven't had a problem with it since.
