Can't respond to text messages

John Parlin

Lurker
I recently switched from IOS/iPhone to a Galaxy Note 5 Android device. For anyone who does this, the droid does rock but you will need to be aware of a glitch that you can correct based on my experience. The customer service rep at Verizon stayed on the phone with me for over an hour and helped me figure out the issue.

When you're an IOS user you have iMessage. My symptoms were that when someone using IOS texted me, I got a message that sending was blocked so I couldn't respond. But also, my daughter, an Android user had the same message. So they could send me messages but I couldn't reply. In order to send a message back was to go to contacts and start a new thread. No matter what they said back, I received a message that I could not respond to them. So it's not just iPhone/IOS, it even impacted Android messages.

I spent 2 hours researching online. Nothing I found was at all useful. Everything was cryptic and not at all helpful. Waste of time. I searched for Verizon's support number. The one I found answered with "thank you for calling, and goodbye". What the hell?

The CSR I worked with was because I found the best number to call but as she advised, just dial *611 and you'll get where you need to go for help.

Now as to the fix, go to www.selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage. You'll get a 6 digit code emailed to you. Enter it on the site and apply. Give it a couple of minutes and then power cycle your Android phone. This will resolve the issue. At least it did for me.

that bugaboo from Apple has caused a lot of problems.

sorry you were not informed by Apple ( of course ) so that the problem would never have bothered you in the first place.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, lots of good help here. No biting allowed. :p
