Root Can't seem to find a working ROM for Droid 2

Hey all,
I've spend weeks on this phone now, trying to get a decent rom on it. Unfortunatly, due to the phones age, development has nearly stopped and to make matters worse I own a Verizon Droid 2. Most ROM on the internet support Droid 2 Global or R2D2, I can't seem to find one for the verizon version. I want to get ICS if at all possable (and I got it working at one point with one ROM, but it was very unstable) or at the very least Gingerbread. But I've tried liquid roms, steel droid, unleashed, cm9 (the unstable ICS rom), and alot more that are just sitting in my SD card. None seem to get past the big M when the phone boots up. And yess, i wipe all data and cache. my method is generally to SBF to froyo, skip setup, enable unknown settings and usb debugging, then install bootstrapper and Z4Root (one click root app). Root the phone, reboot, then install CWM and reboot to recovery where i wipe data and cache, then install rom and reboot. Am i missing a step? Am i just ******ed? Or is it the ROM?

P.S. I tried SBFing back to gingerbread as well (and it worked once as well! But back then i wasn't happy with GB so i decieded to go ICS, then when that failed i couldnt find the GB SBF anymore :( )

I moved this into the "all things root" section of the droid2 forum because I thought it would get more informative replies there.:)
