Help Can't Send Emails

I have an S5. My email is set up. I can send and receive emails at my home WiFi, but on the road or at other WiFis I can receive ,but not send. I keep getting a message that my outgoing server can't be reached. Any suggestions?

What email service are you using - Gmail, Yaoo, a private domain or?

Do you know if this email account is POP3 or IMAP?

What email à app are you using?

Just to be sure I understand the situation, your home WiFi is the only one that works for sending email? No other WiFi networks do? Do other WiFi networks fail for sending email only and work of otherwise or are other networks failing to connect to the Internet at all?

I have a private domain email. It is IMAP. My email only seems to work with the WiFi at my home. As I said, it will receive but not send when I am away from my home wifi. I am using the Samsung app that came with my phone, nothing third party.
I also have a Gmail account which works alright.
I talked with a IT type , who is more Apple oriented and wasn't familiar the S-5. He said that there should be a toggle which should allow the phone to automatically switch between wifi and phone access. If so, do you know how I might access it?
Thank you for responding
Randy

The phone should already automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data if both are enabled.

The Samsung email app is a problem for a lot of users, very buggy. Try downloading something else like K-9, Type Mail, Maildroid or my favorite, AquaMail. The Play store has lotsa choices.

Let whatever you choose setup your private account automatically if possible. If not, carefully do the setup manually.

Post back here with the results. Hopefully it will be happy on any WiFi.

(From another user in another forum) Try this: Go to settings, then data usage. Scroll down to breakdown of data usage and press on your email client. Uncheck the Restrict Background Data there.

The Restrict Background Data box was unchecked.

I will check into AquaMail and the like

Thanks again guys

Is your email service being provided by your own home ISP? ISP just might blocking IMAP or POP sending if they determine you're coming from an IP address that isn't one of theirs. An anti-spammer and security measure. I've known some ISPs do that in the past, but not heard of it recently though. Pipex and Gifford in the UK did this, and if you wanted to send POP or IMAP emails from outside of their own IP range, you had to contact them to have it turned on.

I have an individual who maintains our domain. He is the one I mentioned earlier. He is usually able to solve my IT problems. He is not up on Androids.
