Help Can't set alarm without internet ??????????

My wife has very poor sight, so would love to be able to use Google assistant/OK Google more.

However, it's all a bit rubbish so far.

Can anyone explain why, oh why, does GA/OK Google require an internet connection before the following commands will work:

"OK Google, what's the time ?"
"OK Google, set alarm for 5 pm."

?

She cares very little for technology, but so far is very unimpressed about "the future".

Because Google is operated through a internet connection that's not only activated by voice command but also connected to many functions of what Android systems does. You can always manually set your device alarm with no internet connection.

Depending on the whatever it is phone or tablet you've actually got there, and it's Android version, it may have complete accessibility features for blind or visually impaired that doesn't require internet access.

"OK, Google..." i.e. Google Assistant. which does run in the cloud and requires full internet access to work. NO devices I use even have it, and it's not available here anyway. In fact it might still only be United States....

Because the voice recognition happens in the cloud where much more powerful servers can process the voice stream and convert it more accurately.
