Help Can't set mp3 as ringtone in 4.1.2

After the 4.1.2 update this past weekend I can no longer set an mp3 file as my ringtone. The official android webpage says you should be able to do this from within play music.

"You can set a song as your ringtone from Play Music, and the new ringtone editor lets you crop that ringtone to the exact section of the track you

After you copied it to the Ringtones folder did you power off/power on? I believe it populates the list of available ringtones during the boot up.

Thom, I am having this same issue with setting mp3's as ringtones but I can't find this 'Ringtone' folder. I've connected my Droid 4 via my computer cord and I can find nothing to help me! I can get files to show up in my Notifications such as Default Notification or Text Notification but not Ringtones.

You can create a Ringtones folder or a Notifications folder anywhere with those exact names. On my current phone I use /tlanet/Noifications and /tlanet/Ringtones.

Copy the .mp3 files into the new folder.

Reboot (Power Off/Power On).

When it boots up it scans all the folders looking for the two names and then loads the names of all the .mp3 files into the two lists.

(On Jelly Bean 4.2.2 like on the Droid Maxx the names show up in the lists immediately without the need to reboot.)

I have a ZTE phone with Android 4.1.2 OS. I have created 3 music files with both .mp3 or .m4a extensions (6 files total). After connecting the phone to my computer and using My Computer to look at the storage in the phone, I created a Ringtones folder in the SDcard. I transferred the 6 files to the Ringtones folder. I disconnected from the computer and powered down the phone, then powered the phone back up. The files do NOT show up in the ringtones list.

Can anyone tell where the existing ringtones are stored? I can find no folder in either the SDcard or the Phone which show the existing ringtones.

Is either file extension acceptable to Android?

Is there a new version of Android which may fix this problem, like 4.1.3 or whatever?

Thanks for your help, Paul

You posted this in the Motorola Droid 4 forum and I don't know your phone. Does it have a removable SD card ... SD-Ext?

On my Bionic under 4.1.2 the ringtones and notifications folders on the SD-Ext are ignored. The ringtones and notifications on the SD card are used.

Is this possibly the problem you are having?

I'm new at this forum, so I may have put my question in the wrong place. I cannot find a forum for my ZTE Majesty phone. Where should I put my question? Any suggestions?

Paul

Yes. When I look at the contents of my phone with My Computer, I find SDcard and PHONE. I have put a Ringtones folder in both of these places, and then put the ringtone files in each folder. Nothing appears in the ringtone list, even after rebooting.

Should I move my questions to Other Phones?

Paul

That is odd. I assume you double-checked the spelling of the folder names.

Yes you might try asking your question in the other forum.
