Can't use letter 'A' while browsing internet/market

I must be missing something very obvious, but I cannot use the letters A nor X while browsing the internet or searching in the marketplace. Letter A highlights whatever I had been typing, and then letter X just deletes everything I've typed.

What am I missing? I know that both A and X are apart of a directional pad over there, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that?
