Can't use spotify as default player

So, I'm unable to use Spotify as my default music provider with the Google assistant, I only have the option to choose between YouTube or Play Music.

I am a Spotify premium user.

Quick guide (if you have not already tried this):

1. Go into the settings of your phone and look for the Google settings,
2. Enter these settings and find and select Search, assistant and voice,
3. Then select Settings at the top of the page,
4. Now select the Services tab and find and select Music,
5. In this page find and select Spotify.

These directions maybe slightly different on your phone, but should work. Check the attached images if you get stuck @nicholasedwards08 Also make sure you have the app Spotify app installed.

This is all I have when I go to the music settings, I do have the Spotify app installed but it's doesn't show.

Looking at my device it states that you must have a compatible device. Maybe your device is not compatible?

Maybe, but Google assistant is able to use Spotify if I say 'on Spotify' after a music command

That is what you would normally say, but you need to link your account first. Which device do you have @nicholasedwards08 ?

Ok, so let's try this @nicholasedwards08

1. Go into the settings of your phone and look for the Google settings,

4. Now select the Services tab and find and select Explore,
5. In the search box type in Spotify,
6. Hopefully on the results page you can link your account.

I think you can add any player like default in settings - apps - "3 dots" - defauilt apps and choose your player

I fixed the problem

I downloaded the Google home app then linked Spotify to my Google account on there.

Ok, so this is getting complicated. So we shall give it another go?

Hit the playstore and grab Google Home:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app

Install and sign into your google account. It may ask you to setup a device, skip that bit and make sure your on the home page (see attached images)

1. From the home page select Settings,
2. Now select Linked Media Accounts,
3. Hopefully on this page you will see Spotify and are able to link it!

I also had such a problem, but I fixed it very quickly
