Car Apps and questions

So, Noob here. I downloaded a couple of Car apps and don't really understand how to use them. after reading up I'm still totally confused.

I have an epic 4g/samsung/ 2.1 android os

I've got Car Mode, Car Dock Speakerphone, Car Dock, Car UI Lite, Custom Car Home.

Here's what i have in my car: an old tape deck that has the tape player-plug in for ipod/mp3 stereo playback. a dash mount on the car.)

Here's what I want to happen when I'm driving.
-i want a home screen with nav button, call, and music button that is easily accessible with minimal button pushing or fiddling to get to it.

-i want to play music and navigate simultaneously (this happens already).

-and when a call happens i want to be able to answer on bluetooth and stop the music and keep the nav screen running (the music /call part doesn't seem to be possible, nor does it seem to be possible to activate voice dialing by pushing the bluetooth button.)

right now, i would have to unplug the phone from the stereo system to answer a call--otherwise what happens is that the caller is run through the speaker system, but they can't hear me talk back. and i hate speakerphone in any case.

Any suggestions for how best to do this, would be great.

I have tasker installed but i seriously can't figure it out. and i have one more day of trial on it.

Thanks!
Tricia

Well I use Car Dock V2 for icons, I'm not sure what your bluetooth problem is. Mine works fine through my car's stereo, and when there's a call, it mutes the music and I hear the call over the speakers - there's no way to tell if it's coming over the bluetooth or the stereo cable though.

I would have thought your phone would mute the music automatically when you got a call, so you might be out of luck. Mine certainly does. Or it might be that my car stereo just switches to the Bluetooth audio and away from the aux input.

If you're on your Bluetooth earpiece, and you get a call when music's not on, can your caller hear you? If not that's weird, Bluetooth should just work.

i definitely am on bt; i should note my stereo is not bt equipped. i just have a jack plugged into the phone's audio input.

so, call comes in, i try to answer, i can hear them only through stereo. they can't hear me at all. i have to disengage the stereo completely by pulling out the jack.

read something somewhere about the type of jack (if it has two bands it's just stereo-output; if it has three bands it's mic'ed???? radioshack dude said it wouldn't mattter and that they still wouldn't be able to hear me if i got the adapter).

i have android 2.1 so maybe that's it. if you are on froyo this might be solved.
