Car media streaming of my music

Since Oreo, when I switch car radio to Bluetooth streaming of my phone’s music, I am getting the message that my device is paused. I see no setting to be changed on the car’s audio, and none on the phone. Is this the new default?

Anyone else experiencing this, or have a fix?
