Root Carbon Rom and ART

Hey hey, I'm not new to rooting and custom roms, but relatively new to doing so on hammerhead. I went crazy with almost every rom and kernel out there (well at least the popular ones) and finally settled on Carbon. I got all my settings just the way I like them and I was surprised to see the jump in improvement in battery life, customization, well everything... until they "updated" the rom to be built over CM. It was originally built over slim (AOSP), which supports the more popular kernels as well as ART. (CM does not) I know of the CAF patch to get AOSP kernels compatible with CM, but does anyone know if it will also makes CM compatible with ART? I tried the CM build on Carbon, but got all types of bugs, fc's, and entire system shutdowns for no apparent reason. I was on ART, fully knowing that CM doesn't support it. But after experiencing the difference even on stock, I refuse to go back. Any word? If not, I'll just stick to the 8/24 nightly build (the last Carbon Rom AOSP build) which supports ART. Thanks for any help/advice that comes my way! Incidentally, this is not meant as a knock to the Carbon Rom devs and their decision to rebuild it over CM. But as an enthusiast I like to keep my roms updated, and I can't do so with my current settings. (I think they're up to 8/31 build as of this post?) So I'm just a little sad and looking for a workaround.

If AOSP support is important to you, you'll need to end up looking for another ROM. I went through the same thing a few months ago when liquidsmooth rebased to CM.

I wasn't aware cm builds didnt have ART though. That seems strange, given its in the stock ROM.

I'd suggest checking out either DirtyUnicorns (local forum favorite), OmniROM, or ParanoidAndorid

Shite, I was afraid of that. Well thanks for the heads up with your experience. I posted something similar in the xda forum, but only got heresay responses. Finally got someone who has a little experience on the matter. Thanks again!! I tried those roms, but found that they drained the battery a bit quicker than I liked even on art. I may just stay on the 8/24 build (last carbon rom aosp build) I could try a slim kernel combined with one of those others to save battery... hmmm. My fav aside from carbon would have to be dirty unicorns. that one's very unique. Oh, BTW there is art on the cm build of carbon, it's just buggy as all hell.

There is a zip that is supposed to make the ROMS AOSP compatible, but I haven't messed with it and for the life of me can't find it right now

Just so happens I used that patch on one the nightlies a few days ago to flash Franco kernel on it. Didn't had any problems for the entire day.

Yep, thas the CAF patch I'd mentioned in the OP. I went ahead and gave it a shot with the newest carbon build and art. I did a clean flash, and there were no noticeable bugs. Only thing I found was fewer governor options (I liked the slim governor in previous builds) and that the battery drained a bit faster than the 8/24 build. I played around with the performance settings (clocking, gov, scheduler) but didn't find one that gave me snappiness and battery conservation that I'm looking for. When I changed the settings to save battery, it became super laggy. I hear great things about franco kernel, but tried it once and found that it made one of my favorite apps no longer compatible. Guess I'm sticking to the 8/24 build, at least till android L comes out. I'm fine with that... It's a great build, great battery life, super fast, no bugs with any features. Actually I'm finding that I have better bluetooth syncing than stock. But I'm open to any ideas. Thanks for the help fellas!
