Cases, extended batteries, and camera quality....

Do cases have an impact on camera quality?

For example my extended battery and back creating a hole where the camera lense is. Fast forward to extreme.... The camera lense is focusing through a tunnel.

Wouldn't this have an impact on the camera, especially if you add a larger case on top of it?

These cameras seem to have a great depth perception as well as adjusting well with light. If the camera is now focusing through a 5mm hole vs wide open I would think there is the possibility of having an adverse effect.

Any opinions or thoughts?

Provided the hole is large enough to not show any sign of vignetting - where the corners of photos are darker than they should be - then having the lens set deeper into the case is a good thing because the case will act as a lens hood, helping to the avoid the flare that can easily happen if sunlight falls directly onto a lens.
