Root CF-Auto-Root

Anybody on here used it on the N5?

I'm expecting my N5 to arrive in the post any day now and I'm seriously thinking about rooting it, but it's my first every android device so I don't know what I'm doing and this seems like it does all the work for you.

So, anyone tried it? Got feedback etc? Thanks :)

Chainfire is one of the most well respected android developers. He makes one of the more popular superuser apps for rooted users.

If he made it, you can count on it working :)

However, if you hit snags I have posted everything you need to do it manually here:

Additionally, wugs toolkit is another great tool for automating the process.

Just remember unlocking the boot loader will perform a factory reset, so its best to at least do that early so you don't have to reset up too much. You can always unlock it without gaining full root

Hi guys.

I was actually just talking with Rxpert83 about making a guide here for using the rooting method linked to above in the OP.

I'll have it posted shortly, so keep an eye out for that thread, if you're interested.

Thanks bros :)

Now, I may be mere hours from having my Nexus 5 in my hot little hand and I just want to make 1000% sure before I do anything that I know what I'm doing sooo...

Is there any reason NOT to use the CF-Auto-Root? It looks easy and I've already DL'd it.

If I use it, should I do anything before hand? Do I need to run through the phone initial set up first or can I root straight outta the box?

If I root using CF-Auto-Root can I then install Dirty Unicorn?

Thanks bros :)

I am excite :) :) :)

The only downside is you won't know what exactly its doing. Now I'm not suggesting its doing something bad, but there are times when its nice to know how to send commands to your phone from a terminal on the computer.

You're good to go whenever

It should root the stock ROM for you. After that, if you'd like to flash a custom ROM you can.

If you want to stay stock rooted for a bit, there are ways to get many of the features of a custom ROM while staying on the stock one. Xposed framework and gravity box will allow for that, but we'll cross that bridge once you decide.

Other popular Roms are cataclysm, cyanogenmod, and omnirom.

Don't know if you've seen it or not yet, but I have the guide posted now to easily root the Nexus 5 using CF-Auto-Root here: http://androidforums.com/nexus-5-al...-5-easy-rooting-guide-using-cf-auto-root.html

It's surprisingly easy, but there are a few odd bits that might throw someone off, such as when to install which drivers.

Hope this helps you if you choose to use CF-Auto-Root. Keep us posted on how your Nexus 5s are doing. :)

...

Personally, I'm rather fond of the stock Android OS/ROM on the Nexus 5, but if I was to use a different one, it would most likely be CyanogenMod. Just a matter of preference though, as there are several good ones out there.
