change default Gmail account

I have 3 mail accounts on my galaxy S. I want to change the default account and remove the existing one but can't .


I get the messsage: this account is required by some applications" .

I'd have to do a reset. That's a pretty dramatic step. Loose all personal data.

Is there NO other way Google????

A friend of mine wanted to do the same thing on the Droid X - wound up having to do a factory reset. I know of no other way
