Change folder icon

Is it possible to change the generic folder icon that android creates when you group icon together?

Right now, it shows the regular gray folder icon, with four tiny icons of what's in the folder. I'd like to change the gray folder icon to something else.

I know I can do this with SmartShortcuts or FolderOrganizer. I'm just wondering if Android now has a way to do this WITHOUT an app.

(Phone = HTC EVO 4G LTE)

Thanks!

Its launcher dependent, not OS dependent. You can only change it without an app if your default launcher supports that feature. Usually though OEM launchers like TouchWiz and Sense don't support it AFAIK.

If your phone is rooted you can change this. You'll need a copy of the Rom you're going to run and a .zip archive tool like 7zip or the like.

If you're not rooted you can't do this without a 3rd party launcher, as far as I know.

Let me know if you're rooted and I'll dig into the Rom you're running and see if I can find where that .PNG is located. :)
