Could you please let me know if it possible to change the motherboard for samsung galaxy s3..my existing motherobard is crashed and samsung serivce center has informed that due to installing software from other than google play store the phone has crashed.they said they checked and came to know i rooted the phone. Where as i installed paid games from sites and played them and their is nothing else i had done. How much does a new motherboard cost.

What do you mean by crashed? Is the phone bricked or something? Unless you rooted the phone or flashed the firmware, you should stand for your rights, stress them with calls etc.

He actually said:

I assume he meant that Samsung said he rooted the phone whereas all he did was purchase some games from the Play Store and play with them.

Basically -- NO -- this is not a PC where replacing a motherboard could be a simple operation. You are most likely faced with replacing the phone. IF you bought it through a Carrier (e.g., Verizon), if you can convince them the phone is faulty, they might replace it for free (they did for me when it fried my SD card!). Otherwise, you could be looking at the Retail price for a new phone.

I had that same problem with my S3 after the jelly bean update. Then a few after the update my copy and paste stopped working and the phone was performing really sluggish. So I did a full reset on the phone which sorted out the problem.
But a few days after doing this my started to reset on it's own which it never did that before, then one day when i got home from work i heard my phone get a notification so when went to the phone to see what it was my phone was stuck in the Samsung galaxy start up screen I pulled the battery out the phone put it back in and still the same I could not even put the phone in the recover mode but I could put it in the download mode but could not flash the phone or anything. Sent my phone back to Vodafone then they phoned me to say I had rooted my phone and to fix it they will have to charge me 100 quid I told them the phone had never been rooted and it was updated via Kies but they was having none of it. So I told them send my phone back un-repaired which they did! in the end I went to a walk in Samsung repair center they took the phone and said they will have it for 48 hrs to check out the fault. a few hours later had call from Samsung repair center saying they had fixed my phone and said they had to replace the motherboard and that the phone now virtually brand new. So if I was you I'd take to Samsung and get the phone checked out!

Changing the motherboard on a S3 is easy, the problem is finding a 100% working motherboard for a decent price. Look for a youtube video, search for something like " i997 disassembly " replace the i997 with whatever your specific phone model is. Your probably going to need a small 00 or 000 screwdriver, a small flat head, and a t4 or t5, well that and the motherboard.

..do you have warranty on your phone that's why samsung has checked your phone and fixed it?.. recently, my phone can't be turned on and not charging as well. I took it to the shop and said it's the motherboard which is defected.. If i bring it to samsung will they check and fix it without warranty?
