Hello, where is the best place to request changes to this OS? We just upgraded to the Samsung S9's from S5's and lots has changed, or, has gone away.

i doubt you can request changes to the OS, this is done by the manufacturers, ie samsung only they can change the opersting system on the phone , with regular updates, im afraid you are stuck with the OS. I agree its difficult to get use to new phone OS. However if you root your phone then you can make changes but im sure that would make the warranty on your s9 invalid. Not sure if you can root the s9 as it a new phone, maybe im wrong..lol

There won't be any ROMs for the S9 yet, probably no root (and of course it depends where you are: the US versions tend to be more locked-down than the rest of the world).

In any event it would depend whether the things the OP dislikes are Samsung changes or Android changes: if they are Samsung changes then your option will (eventually) be to switch to an AOSP ROM, but of course that will also be different from the S5's Samsung ROM. If they are Android changes then you are stuck with them, since nobody will be making a ROM based on an older version for that phone.

You can try to find someone at Samsung who will listen to you, but that's almost certainly a waste of time. So to be honest my advice is to get used to the new version. It's also normal when you make a big change to notice the things that are gone before you notice the advantages of the newer system, so I'd give it a few days before coming to any conclusions.

You could also ask us what you don't like or are confused about. Maybe the folks here can help you get comfortable with the changes.

You could always contact Google and request a feature. While they are ready to release Android P, suggestions could be used for Android Q which will be released in 2019 and be distributed in 2020.

Folks, thanks for your responses. One of the things we are both disappointed in is with contacts and their notifications. Before, I could set a separate ring tone for phone calls AND separate notification for text messages. Now, its just one for each. Is there a way to change that?

Sorry, are you saying it makes you use the same tone for calls and texts? Or that it can't customise one of them by sender?

Either way I suggest just using a different text app, something like Textra, rather than the built-in one. If pre-installed apps don't do what you want you don't have to just put up with it.

Both. I can only set 1 ring tone and 1 text notification across the board. I've checked out Textra, looks good, good reviews. How do we set this as default? Can I remove the OS icon from my home page?

You set an SMS app as default by opening the app - it will ask whether you want to make it the default.

You can do whatever you like with the icons on your desktop.

But not being able to set personal ringtones sounds odd. Are you sure they've not just changed how you do it? Different manufacturers and different version may put this in different places. For example, I'm sure I've had phones where you did that by editing a contact, but with my current one I have to view (not edit) the contact then touch the three-dot button to get the option. Just try a few different things, because it may just be that the option is in a different place.

Hadron, I've looked all over. I CAN set separate ring tones for the contacts I choose, I just can't do separate text notifications for the same contacts I did the ring tones. On the S5 we could.

I know, we need to get used to the new OS.

As I mentioned earlier, we'll be looking into Textra more than likely.

Thanks for all your help!
