changing app titles

This seems like a simple issue but I've yet to find anyone with a decent solution.

I'd like to change the title of a couple of apps on the homescreen of my HTC Desire - especially Google Mail (it annoys me that it doesn't fit on the screen; I'd like to change it to Gmail).

I've tried Anycut, but that seems to be a bit haphazard in assinging icon sizes.

Does anyone know how to solve the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Caveat: I don't know about the HTC Sense UI, I only know of the stock Android UI.

The stock Home app won't let you change app names, but some (if not all) Home app replacements do. I know for certain that PandaHome allows you to hide/uninstall/rename apps directly from the home screen.

Good luck.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :D

I've been using Better Cut for a long time now, I've never had any issue with the icon sizes, performance with the app, or anything. Between Better cut and Apps Organizer, my screens are nice and uniform. Those long app names were driving me nuts too.

Anycut, for example, provides a smaller than normal Gmail icon and larger than normal Facebook icon. I'll try Bettercut and hope for the best! Failing that, I'll look into Pandahome.

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I really appreciate it.
