Changing keyboard theme - and also icons?

Hi I'm wondering how I change keyboard themes and where I can get skins for them? I'm on HTC Desire....

Also does the phone need to be rooted - I haven't rooted mine - worried incase I break it....and also I'm on Froyo 2.2 and i also don't understand all the rooting, flashing, roms etc....

also is there somewhere I can get icons similar to iphone ones??

You can download an app called Better Keyboard and get different skins and fonts from the app market.
