Root Changing my OS??

I bought my Motorola FlipOut in China so it came with a Chinese OS (meaning no Facebook, no Twitter, etc). I'm just wondering how (or if it's even possible) to install a North American system instead. Please let me know if I can!! Thanks everyone.

I want to root my flipout with US rom but i have a question, is it gonna lock my phone? you know from my carrier? (I'm not in US)
