Changing Notification Ringtones

Hello - I apologize if I am repeating a topic that has been answered - I did not see an exact answer for this issue.
I would like to be able to change the notification ringtones (i.e. various email accounts and text messages) to something customized. How do I do this? I have custom ring tones on my phone already for contacts but I do not see any option of a custom ringtone for the notifications (just the same default ones). I appreciate anyone's help with this. Thank you

Two programs come to mind.

1. Tone Picker will allow you to select different sounds for contacts and such.

2. Ringdroid will allow you to make your own ringtones.

I have added this folder on sd card media/audio /notifications and then drop the mp3 in, they then appear on settings/sound/notification sound.

I had no problems changing my notification ringtone for text messages but when I changed it to a new ringtone it would still play the previous tone. So I deleted that song from my folder and now it won't play any tones at all when someone texts me. Not even the tones that came on the phone. What's the deal?
