Changing sms style without using a different client

I just started using the Spring Samsung Galaxy S II and so far I like it pretty well except for one thing....

How can I change the sms text bubbles to a more standard look without downloading a different sms client?

If my memory serves me correct (I haven't been on stock since the day I brought my phone home)... you can't. The only way of tweaking the look of the stock SMS app is by rooting and installing a ROM that has the ability to change the message style. I've seen a few out there but none of which compare to Go SMS Pro (Available on the market for free) which also has the feature of doing what you requested as far as the message bubbles/list go.
