ive got the sony ericsson xperia X10i and I have it on pay as you go. ive kept the 3g internet turned off, but if I ever want to use WiFi from the router at home, it charges me. well, WiFi shouldnt cost should it. at least, not the phone. am i doing something completely wrong, or just being really stupid?

You want to double check that you regular GPRS turned off as your network will not even know that you are connecting via WiFi on the phone, it simply does not show up on their end unless you are using it for tethering.
Main menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Untick Data Enabled.
