Charging port location

My first smartphone was an HTC DROID Incredible. Its micro USB port is on its lower left side. This worked well for me when charging in my car, as I could stand the phone up in the double cupholder of my 2005 Honda Accord. That way the headphone jack was also accessible for connection to my stereo.

My next smartphone was an LG Spectrum, which will soon be replaced. The Spectrum's micro USB port is on the top of the phone, right next to the headphone jack. This is even more convenient in my car than the Incredible.

I'm concerned that the port placement on the SGS3 will be a pain. I mean, how will I be able to charge the phone AND connect my headphone jack to the car stereo?

It looks like I might need to invest in some of that non-slip rubber stuff to put the new phone on once it gets here. But even then, I'm not sure where I should put it for the best placement.

Any ideas? Please don't say "Bluetooth," as that's not an option.

Thanks

Oh I don't know. Have you spent 2 seconds to do a google search? The bottom image is how i use my s3 with car charger and aux headphone input to car stereo.

How's this:

why not?

if you can connect via the headphone jack, you can buy a BT adapter:

reason i had to go to this for my android phone was the output via the headphone jack sucked. i ended up buying a small audio amplifier which helped, but still i needed more "boost" to the output.

so as a test, i bought that and sure enough, was more than the headphone jack PLUS the audio amplifier...

The reason I haven't spent 2 seconds to search car mounts is because I will never use one. I think they're ugly and pretentious. I like putting my phone down low within an arm's reach.

I guess on the rare occasion I need to charge and listen, I'll just have to figure out an adequate but imperfect solution.

Thanks

Got it. So you aren't using your phone as a gps device, just a music player?

As for looking 'pretentious', I prefer functionality over form factor. If that makes me pretentious, so be it. At least I can see my display.

On the rare occasion I use my phone for navigation I leave it in the cupholder and listen, not watch. In general, I rarely ever need to look at my phone while driving. I guess that's really why I'd never consider a car dock.

I suppose I could look for a small cradle-like device that would be flat along the bottom of the phone and allow me to connect a micro USB cable to the side...

I also seem to recall hearing about a Bluetooth dongle that has on it a headphone plug. This would allow me to plug that into my car stereo and stream from my phone. I think it's an HTC device... I'll have to Google it when I'm at a computer.

It just dawned on me that I can allow the screen to rotate. That way I can simply turn the phone 180 degrees and have the USB port on the "top." I'm not sure if TouchWiz allows that, but I'm probably going to end up with a different launcher anyway.

Thanks for the input so far, guys.

I have an A/C vent mount and find it much less obvious and "pretentious" than a dash or windshield mount, so you might want to try that. It also keeps the phone from overheating.
