Charging routine

Pep

Android Enthusiast
Hi All.

What is the best way to regularly charge the phone.

Is it better to do lots of little charges or let it get low and do a big charge?

I put mine on charge while I sleep overnight, regardless of the battery percentage, and top it up in the afternoon.
I would call myself an average to heavy user.

Just after some opinions.

Thanks Pep

I leave mine to charge overnight like you, depending on how much I use it throughout the day I might give it a quick charge in the late afternoon.

If you read the maker's booklet recommendations on using the battery it will tell you what you need to know. After initial charging you can basically charge the batteries however you like but they do recommend that once a month you let the batteries get down to around 10% and then a full charge to prolong the life of the battery but most Lithium Ion batteries for phones are cheap now off eBay/Amazon so it's worth buying a spare if it's a removable battery.
I keep a spare one with a full-ish charge just in case. You can also buy high powered external battery units for phones and larger High powered batteries for some phones that come with a modified rear cover to allow for the larger batteries but how good these are I cannot say.
The spare battery I have was cheap and supposed to be 2450 mA but it ain't and only gives me about an extra 10% usage.I didn't complain as it was cheap and works fine.

HTH :)

There are lots of mythical charge/discharge procedures that are supposed to radically enhance batteries, but as the replies above suggest, they're mostly BS (though I do tend to subscribe to complete discharge once a month one :D) as modern batteries don't suffer from (noticeable) battery memory.

Just do what works for you. I tend to charge overnight as with my usage, the battery just about lasts till bedtime. If I happen to use the phone more than usual and it needs a little extra juice, it gets topped up. No worries.

I only puts my phone on charg when I wakes up in the morning and uses it whole day. I prefer a single complete charge only, but if battery goes low I connects it with my Laptop.

Regarding the discharge once a month rule, does this apply to lithium polymer batteries? Or just lithium ion?

Strictly speaking, I don't think it actually applies to any modern battery, so it applies equally to both :D

Always good to get the pirate perspective ..

The answers will vary by phone.

I have a Droid Maxx, put it on the charger every night, and NEVER think about it. I measured full discharge time twice and they were 2d 18h and 3d 2h.

I usually only charge mine at night, unless it gets too low during the day. I do use a lower amp charger than the one provided by Google. The slower the charge, the better for the battery IMO.
