Cheap Phone for T-Mobile Prepaid

I'm looking at T-Mobile's $30/month 100 minute talk plan for myself and my wife. We don't expect to use the phones much (especially my wife) so I don't want to spend more than $200 per phone. However, I don't want phones with less than a 4 inch screen. Right now I'm looking at the LG L9 or the Alcatel one touch Fierce. The L9 received fair reviews when it came out but it's pretty old at this point. The Alcatel's reviews have been mediocre - worse than the L9. My wife and I are interested in android phones only.

Any recommendations for current phones?

Any new inexpensive phones coming from T-Mobile in the near future?

L9 is not pretty old. You cant get a new half decent phone for less than $200.

I got the L9 for $150 few months ago for my aunt.

Hi Andy,

Honestly there's a jungle of phones to choose from. The L9 isn't bad, but you can do better. If you look online on websites such as swappa.com, eBay, you'll see many phones to choose from, plus higher-end used phones are often cheaper than recent ones. New doesn't always necessarily mean better. Getting a used nexus 4 or galaxy nexus doesn't seem like a bad idea. I recently bought an At&t S3 for 280 (it's cheaper now), had it unlocked, then used it on T-Mobile. But search around and find ones you like, there isn't a best phone lol. It's like choosing a car.

What Super said.

I just got a used AT&T S3 and also unlocked it and used my Tmobile sim card. I got the phone on Ebay and it is near mint condition. (I even got a free Iphone 3GS out of it but I won't use that and will probably sell that) Just gotta shop around and look for good deals. The Nexus 4 is fairly cheap now that the Nexus 5 is out.

Thanks everyone for your input. I bought 2 L9's from Walmart plus 2 activation packages. My wife and I are looking forward to all the conveniences of a smartphone.
