Check for coverage/tower problems?

I'm using the htc Evo 4G (stock ROM) and last night I could not connect to 4G no matter what I tried. Prior to that I always had excellent 4G coverage but rarely had any bars showing next to the battery icon. This morning I noticed that the bars next to the battery icon were lighting up randomly.

I remember when I was using the Danger-powered Sidekick phones that there was a website you could visit to view and report cell tower/signal problems. The carrier used this info to keep apprised of coverage problems and you could immediately see if there was a non-functioning tower. I tried a few of the apps in the market but half of them were to difficult to understand and the other half didn't report on 4G problems or wouldn't work at all.

Does Sprint have a website that reports tower outages/problems or is there a reliable market app that does this?

Sensorly collects data from (volunteer) users who have the app and posts the signal strengths. This won't specifically tag a bad tower (to my knowledge) but will let you know if others are experiencing weak coverage in an area as well.

Whoops, I just reread your post more carefully, and my memory is that Sensorly doesn't do Sprint 4G. This may have changed since I last used the app (I used it and submitted data occasionally on my EVO 4G, but haven't ever installed it on my new 3D).

Sensorly does display 4G. There is a special menu for it.

Thank you for the replies. I'm now thinking it was a temporary thing and Sprint was working on things. I'm now consistently able to get multiple bars where I only used to get one or two.. looks like coverage was improved in my area. Still going to check out Sensorly, though.

Four Towers in Gaithersburg Maryland, were down for 3-4 days. Why would it take 3-4 days to restore service? This is an outrage!

Ha Ha Ha I called them two days ago and they said it was due to the quake we had. Called back and started getting nasty with the rep because the said there wasnt any reported issues in the 20706 zip code. I went on to tell her i have been working in this area for 6 years and have had sprint the whole time and since this is the only time my phone has ever roamed here. Hold for a moment sir while i look deeper into this. Oh I appologize sir theres been tower issues since the 17th in your area. We will be done fixing it by tomorrow. I was like um yea maybe the news didnt get to you but we are getting hit by a tropical storm / hurricane over the next 36 hours i highly doubt your guys are going up on a tower to fix it tomorrow. She gave me a 20 dollar credit on my account..... So If more people call in and complain maybe itll get fixed faster. If they have to keep issuing credits it will take away from their profits.

In fairness to Sprint, I suspect they are dealing with a LOT of tower problems this week. I realize that isn't much comfort when a tower that is critical to your use is out of service.
