Yes, the Internet is BIG. But did you ever consider how big the Universe is?

Grains of Sand
There are over 100 billion stars in our Milky Way galaxy. And the Milky Way is just one of 100 billion galaxies. These kinds of numbers are very difficult for the human mind to grasp. I like to think of all the stars as grains of sand on the beach. Terrence Dickerson and Jack Newton put this into perspective very elegantly in their book, Splendors of the Universe:

"A big construction type wheelbarrow will carry enough sand to make up the Milky Way. The wheelbarrow carries about 100 billion grains of sand, thus 100 billion stars. Dip a thimble into the pile and you will scoop out about 10,000 grains of sand, which is about the same you can see on a clear night.

"Now, to imagine all the stars in the universe you need a freight train that has hoppers filled with sand, each hopper holding 100's of galaxies like our Milky Way. As the train passes, one hopper every second, you will have to count 24 hours a day for 3 years."
