Check your Google Voice settings - SMS forwarding

I noticed yesterday, I started getting 2 SMS texts per incoming SMS. One on Google Voice App, the other on Messanging (from GV's Montana number).

It looks like Google Voice has a setting (which I either forgot about and set off, or a new setting), where SMS texts are forwarded to your phone. That's fine if you don't have a Smart Phone running GV or Google Voice, or have unlimited texts.

I have no unlimited texts, so I've been getting charged for those SMS's.

Easy fix is go to your Google Voice settings on the WEBPAGE (not App), and click on the Phone tab under Settings, and uncheck the Receive SMS texts to this phone.

I also went to the My T-Mobile webpage and checked off block charged text messages.

Just did this myself, quite nice, I was worried I'd have to update my plan because of this, thankfully I don't. I do notice, though, that it wont give me warnings anymore, or at least it didn't when I checked. Minor detail, really. EDIT: hahaha disregard that. Works marvelously. Time to downgrade my plan, save 10 bucks

Using the newest version of the Google Voice app, you can configure the refresh time as low as 5 minutes. You can also do a manual refresh in the app.

That is different from forwarding SMSs to your phone, which is generally instantaneous.
