Children Obesity as the major concern and the role of parents - A report shared by Chera McCabe

Children obesity is going to be the major issue which is required to be noticed very seriously by all the parents. These stats are shared by a Health and wellness graduate assistant, Chera McCabe.

A new poll released today shows a large a gap between parents

Lots of people are fat but how were they calculating this? I'm considered obese at 5'10", 190lbs, and 7% body fat. But I imagine I'm just a freak of nature and very few people fall into my category.

It seems to be ok to be fat with the growing popularity of the internet and with the social norm that you cannot make fun of someone for being fat. 'Oh no they might have a condition' I'm sure those same conditions exist in Ethiopia but you don't see obese people crawling around there.

If anything the internet has allowed the mass demonisation of those who are fat. It's another angle of bigotry as such.

There is also a huge issue with youth feeling bad about themselves for even being overweight, particularly among teenage girls. Mental health is an issue here too and there seems to be a growing trend of girls left with zero confidence when there is no major issue with how they look or their health, not that that should be relevant.

So what do we do about it? If it is such a problem, wont parents notice? Should they choose to ignore their large kids, why is it my problem?

Well, I guess I will be paying for the HC so it becomes my problem.

So lets pass a law to protect the kids. Force parets to do something and take the kids away iffin they do not do anything.

So here is my problem. Kids (some, apparently) do not care about the proper food and it seems many parents do not care. Kids do not excersize and parents do not force them to do what is right.

What do I, Bob, do about it? It seems I'll pay for it and have no say in the matter because parents of fat kids will tell me it is none of my business.

So here is a question for the experts or those who can Wikepedia it.

Perhaps genetics makes some of us fat and some of us skinny. The skinny ones think they need to bulk up and the fat ones think they are too fat, so they run scared all through life thinking they are the freaks.

When what it is or might be going on is: some are thin and some are fat and what you are is DNA and a natural size that might be the ideal size according to some idiot with a study

Some no nothing says we should be this ideal weight and there might be nothing in the DNA playbook to support such claims.

Genetics does seem to have an influence, however genetics pre-disposes, it's not 100% deterministic. Just look at people 50 years ago: they had the same genetics but way fewer were actually fat.

Absolutely. There are scary reports about obesity causing the current generation being the first to die before their parents however some recent research actually suggests that the statistical link between obesity and early death is pretty flimsy (saw this ages ago: can't be bothered to look for a source).

Of course, if you're grossly obese, you're going to die early, but not if you're just a bit overweight. There's also research that suggests that skinny older people are more likely to die earlier than slightly overweight older people (ditto re sources).

Some no nothing says we should be this ideal weight and there might be nothing in the DNA playbook to support such claims.

Quite - we don't seem understand the science well enough to make that call yet. It's still probably best to avoid being too heavy, though.

Personally, I think I'm anorexic: whenever I look in a mirror, I see a fat b*stard :D

I always love the, "What about teen girls", argument. If pop culture is having such an effect on teens why is it so hard to find a woman who weighs less than I do? In my state of Colorado two out of three adults are overweight it obese. This is a problem that I blame on people not working for what they want. Everyone expects everything to be given to them.

A lot of trashy media outlets, particularly online, basically promote yoyo diets and such. The 'what about teen girls' argument is actually very important, a lot of girls are made to feel that their body is completely worthless, and are left to develop coping systems.

And why must a girl weigh less than you? Surely their personality and attractiveness should come first, not whether or not you could in theory bench them.

I don't even see how this relates to entitlement. Countries like France have strong entitlement cultures, yet France for example has a lower average rate than the British Isles.

I'm afraid the importance of personality is nothing like as important as we uglies would like to believe :( - as highlighted by the fact that a common euphamism for someone being 'ugly' is that they have 'a great personality' :D

The sad truth is that the most important factor in attractiveness is how well you conform to the physical norm preferred by your society (which isn't always tall and skinny as it currently is in the west).

Numerous studies have shown that good looking people are just as likely to attract members of the opposite gender regardless of how they act or what they say. How often have you heard a woman tie herself in knots justifying the words and actions of the good looking jerk she wants to date (I mention women here because guys tend not to bother justifying their attraction to the pretty blonde with the big hooters :D)?

You are absolutely right that the media does make much more of this for women than it does for men, despite it being equally true for both.

Quite. Ironically, the richer, more entitled people tend to be slimmer these days :D
