Christmas Question to the Americans here....

Extreme Android User
OK.. I realise that statistically that's probably the majority here... but bear with me.

Every year at this time, the radio stations and shops are well into their xth week of playing Christmas hits... Mariah Carey gets a check the size of a small country.. and Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas time is inflicted on us all.

One of the 'classics' in the UK is "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl

Now according to this article in the Independent you guys and gals haven't heard of it
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...e-christmas-song-kirsty-maccoll-a8124686.html

Which makes me want to ask a couple of questions..
1) Really? never?

and

2) What do you think of it? (be honest)

oh.. and here's a link to the song...

(if you haven't heard the song before... It does change gear after 1:30, so don't let the slow start put you off... and there is one line that is an issue for some people.. and this isn't the radio friendly version)

So @psionandy in the spirit of reciprocity, have you every heard this "American Classic"?

We are subjected to it annually.

Lol. Call me wrong but I think that's better than most of the Christmas songs I have to listen to all of December :D By the way, how do I embed a YouTube vid again? I think I've got you beat with a classic UK Christmas number 1.

Copy the entire youtube url and paste it into the media dialog in the post reply box.

Psionandy carefully reached for his headphones, he suspected this was some sort of trap, but it was Christmas. Surely no evil would befall him at this point. He thought about if befall was a proper word, but decided that his stream of consciousness reply wasn't going to be derailed that quickly...

He paused from his reply here to scroll up to the link that was posted

and clicked play.....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAKEITSTOPMAKEITSTOP

there's still 87 seconds of this left....... I'm now listening out of spite, and planning to get Santa to send you COAL for Christmas this year. Coal in a Stocking to beat you around the head with it....

I apologies in advance for this ;)

Simple.. the entire country was drunk that Christmas and it seemed a good idea at the time.

Wow that's actually quite a nice song I like it!

But you Americans sometimes don't even know talent if it ran up and jingled it's bells right in front of you!

That's right!

You guys missed out on some of the greatest talent the world has ever seen!

I remember growing up listening to one of the greatest artist I have ever heard.

Rodriguez - ahh such a talented young man!

He gained massive success here in SA but he never gained much success in the USA - such a shame it took you Americans took forever to acknowledge a musical demi god! XD

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixto_Rodriguez

It's amazing I kind of feel Rodriguez was kind of like Vincent Van Gogh in a way but he was finally hailed for his success within his life time :)

Man! XD you hankies took forever to acknowledge such incredible musical Valhalla demi God talent!

I must post a song of his because I am a stereotypical South African that absolutely loves his music!!! We revived his musical career because he was so loved here!

Lol yes I am very stupid! XD

I can do exothermic and endothermic reactions in my sleep but I am sure my stupidity will scare the living hell out of you!

I have not heard your song before. I can't dance to it :) but it's on the ok side. I've escaped hearing any of the songs posted in this thread prior to today. I am a music lover. However, most of what I enjoy came out in the 40's through the 70's and I've been in that groove ever since. It's not that all the great music was released in those years, It's the music that trigger great memories and past associations for me. I'm not deaf to other music but I don't embrace it or intentionally listen to it.
