Chrome apk very large

I notice that Chrome apk is 286MB on my Galaxy S2 4.1.2 This is far larger than any other apk. Is there a reason it needs to be this big; internal storage getting short so freeing up storage would be useful.

On my G2, the app (Chrome, not Chrome Beta) takes up 64.6Mb and data for it is 16.5Mb.
Can you list how much data it's using? Perhaps there's a lot of cache that could be cleaned out.

Here are my details from DiskUsage app. Chrome has 65Mb apk, 92Mb cache (presently) and 32Mb data for total 188MB which is the most of any app on my phone. The biggest 9 apps on my phone are ALL Google apps! Of course I can clear that cache if I want.

Disk Useage says:- Chrome 314MiB apk 286MiB Data 27.6MiB Cache via Application Manger 8.00KB

Eventually used clear data; lost all favourites but now data 42.5Mib and apk 33.6
