Chrome background data

Hi all. I noticed that over the last week my phone reports that Chrome has used 1.2 GB data and 800 MB is background data.

What does Chrome need to use so much background data? I'm going to disable background data for Chrome, what might that break its obviously doing something.

I have background data restricted fit chrome on my phone for a long time. There's nothing broken that I can see.

Interesting it was actually using all that data over WiFi, why so much. Last month shows 300mb forground 700mb background. What on earth is it doing?

Do you have a lot of bookmarks? It does sync bookmarks. Although that's quite a collection if that's bookmarks.

Just checked mine at 375mb foreground and 28mb background. Thats more normal considering some video streaming.

It could also be syncing your view. I can open tabs that I have open on other devices.

Hmmm I have a tab that monitors a web cam, I wonder if when I'm on another tab it updates this feed as background data.
