Is it possible?
i.e similar to iOS?
I've searched and searched and can't find an answer!?
But I'm sure I've seen somewhere its possible?

Not possible unless there's an add-on I'm in aware of. But a tap of the back key is about as quick and easy as it anyone could ask for.

yeah I know you can press back key. I should have elaborated on my reason!
I like using chrome full screen (via app settings & xposed).
so I'd Luke an easy way to navigate back to previous page.

You can't still use the back key? It may be hidden, but if you tap where it normally should be it still works.
yeah I know. The nav bar is hidden I have to swipe up to make it appear. which is OK, bit it would be more convenient and easier to have a swipe method. to eliminate the 'extra' action.
if I could I'd try to develop it myself but I've no idea where to even start!

No, not in the navigation bar, the back key next to the home key. Bottom left in portrait mode, bottom right in landscape mode.

When using a phone in portrait mode (vertically, as in your screenshot) there are 3 function keys along the bottom - Back, Home, Previous apps, from left to right. Tapping the Back key will take the browser back 1 page per tap. Sometimes, using certain apps, including when using browsers in full screen mode, those 3 bottom function keys are not visible, they're 'hidden' yet actually still there and functional. Just tap in the blank space where you would normally expect the keys to be if they were visible and they will respond the same as if they were visible.

I guess this situation is where hardware buttons have an advantage. My SGS3 has a hardware back button. Since yours doesn't, I don't have a solution.

I do recall some time ago reading about the iOS Safari swipe in from the edge to go back to the previous screen. In one article, it said that the Android gesture is backwards compared to the iOS one. iOS swipes in from the left whereas Android swipes in from the right to go back.

sorry mate. I think you're confused.
I have used app setting and xposed to effectively hide the status bar and nav bar (black strip at bottom with back, home and recent apps) whilst I use chrome.

you're on the same page!
ive tried swiping from left to right and right to left and no joy.

Sorry, but I think you are confused. As I said, even if you 'hide' the 3 function keys, they are actually *always* still there and functional.

Go ahead - try it...

Lol. I know they are there! I swipe up to reveal them.
my question is is there a way to swipe back a page like iOS? so I don't have to swipe up to reveal the navbar. its called immersive mode.
function keys = navbar. let's not get off topic here please.

You and crash damage aren't on the same page. He says that even if you don't swipe up, and just tap the area where the back key is supposed to be, it will still perform the back function.

Also can't really help. My Note 2 has a hardware back button.

You could also setup a tasker profile that fires to initiate back function when your browser is active AND you provide v some other trigger like a "shake" or a "gesture
