Chromecast and Netflix in Canada

Hi,
I just received a Chromecast from a friend who got it for me in the U.S. I hooked it up and setup was easy. It casts from my laptop using the Chromecast extension in Chrome with no problems.
What I can't figure out is that my Chrome app on my HTC One X and my ASUS Transformer TF101 Tablet does not have a Cast button in the browser. Also my Netlflix android app on both devices doesn't have the Cast button either. My best guess is that the Chrome and Netflix apps that I have are not the same as the U.S. ones because I am in Canada and Chromecast is not officially supported here yet. Can anyone clarify if I am right about this? Does anyone in Canada who has a Chromecast have it working with the Netflix app on either a tablet or phone? I do use an IP spoofer for logging into the U.S. netflix but that still doesn't provide the Cast button within the app.

Thanks!

John

Try running the chromecast app again and resync. When using the browser you will never see the cast button, you must be using a desktop version of chrome. Also you might not be seeing the cast button because it is not synced correctly or that you're not in the US.

That is what I am trying to figure out. Is my lack of the cast button in the Netflix app or my chrome browser on my phone or tablet because I am in Canada and can only download from the Canadian Google Play Store?

Chrome browser casting is a desktop feature, not available on the Android Chrome app at all. Canada isn't the issue on that one.

Thanks! That part makes sense. I guess I am still confused on what you can do from a Tablet or Phone. How would you cast from one of those devices? It is advertised that you can. Feel like I am either missing something obvious or just being really dumb on this one... :)

Options are limited at present and the SDK is still in beta. When it's finalized we can hope for more options.

Chromecast isn't just a wireless receiver for content from other devices - it's handed a server address, takes content directly from whatever server and then accepts command and control from a phone or tablet.

Evidently in your case, it's not being given a server address that works in Canada, IP spoofing notwithstanding.

So to update, I now have the Cast button on my Netflix app on my tablet and in the You Tube app as well. They just appeared one day earlier this week.
Once I can cast any file from my laptop this will be an almost perfect device but I am happy for now!

There are HDMI dongles that allows you to cast from your desktop (offline content) with no restriction of casting from Chrome browser

They can do what Chromecast do and more through utilising additional technologies like Miracast which was adopted in the Windows 8.1 upgrade, DLNA, Airplay and Mirroring function.
