Chromecast in UK

Hi guys,

Just wondered if anyone know whether or not a Chromecast sent from the US would work over here in the UK? Might be a dumb question but thinking of getting one.

Also, if anyone here has one - could you give me your opinions on it? It seems like a cool idea to me!

Cheers!

Good question!

HDMI doesn't fall to PAL/NTSC country differences so I *think* that there's a good chance that it would work.

The source material would have to be above SD, again, I think, but casting from the Chrome browser defaults to 720p so that shouldn't be a problem.

Unless Google has implemented some location-aware blocks, it seems like a reasonable risk.

Sorry, maybe someone else is up on this.

You might check with these guys - unless I'm mistaken, this was done in the UK with a USA Chromecast -

PS - I absolutely love mine! :)

Managed to snag on from Amazon US last year, nice bit of kit, even more so since the SDK was opened up.

iPlayer works now, yay!

There are reports that imported chromecasts will need to be factory reset before the cast icon appears, but it worked straight away for me.

If you need to reset, hold the button down for circa 30 seconds until the light starts flashing. Alternatively, I think it can be done via the chromecast app.

Also, the BT Sport apk has cast strings in there by all accounts. I'm not too fussed as I only ever watch that via the sky box. I'll take a look though.
