How long has chromecast worked with Linux?

The cast button didn't work for ages, but just tonight I noticed I can cast youtube videos and tabs.

New or am I totally behind the curve on this one?

The cast button for desktop youtube is fairly new.

The Google Cast extension has updated and gone into a new beta just within the last few days so I think it's news.
