Received a pixel 2 XL for Christmas 63 year old 🧓 not a tec savy. Do I need apps like clean sweep and others for this phone to run smoothly? Thank you in advance.

No, Tim. You should not use ANY "cleaning" apps for a Pixel (or any other Android phone for that matter). Just enjoy.

Or at least it doesn't if you buy a Google version. Whether Verizon add some junkware to the ones they sell I don't know (wrong continent to have any experience of that).

Not that AT&T is much better, but the lock-down and bloat are reasons I'll never be Verizon customer (by choice).

If you would like a Google-approved utility to clean out old files and unused apps, I can heartily recommend Files Go. It shouldn't really be needed, but it can help out if you find yourself running low on storage.

Plus it's a pretty handy file manager + offline file transfer utility to boot.
