5 quick ways to speed up your Android smartphone

Already do most, just out of sheer cussedness, but never saw many posts about this cache or cleaner.

I've seen caches mentioned, but none sounded like temp files in Windows.

I don't want the cleaner, just info about that particular cache. I tried a cleaner for Windows once, and it deleted all that IT thought was unnecessary and made a mess.

If you have a recent version of Android, no app is required. Just goto Settings > Storage and long-press Cached data. You will be presented the option to "Clear cached data?" with a choice of Cancel or OK. Selecting OK will clear all cache data for all apps - boom, you're done! Booting into Recovery and wiping the cache partition occasionally is also useful.

I didn't remember seeing it on the Nexus S before I rooted it. Nor is it on the Acer A-500. The Find 7 has it.

The only trouble is - what is cached data? I have apps with large databases that are stored. I don't want all those DB erased. The pictures for most of the apps will turn up in the gallery, just where I don't need or want them, so I'm supposing the OS would delete those, too. I'd prefer some equivalent to a temp file in Windows.

Clearing cache won't cause any loss of data. Cache is just a place for apps to keep things closer at hand that they would otherwise have to work harder to get (so they can run faster). They will still get it though, and willrebuild their cache over time.

Not these apps. You have to download them every time. If I want to look up M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) the program will crash since all the info on the galaxy has been deleted.

You download all the files when you buy the apps, and if you need to reinstall, you download all the files again, and then any upgrades.

Sibley Birds can take 3 hours on an average wifi connection.

All are made to stand alone. Astronomy apps will get used at a dark site where there might be no service of any kind, birding and apps the same.

Problem with doing a blanket clear out, don't know 100% for sure of what is junk files and folders and what is actually needed data for a particular app. I use Clean Master occasionally, and that can white-list particular apps, that I know that I don't want to delete their downloaded data, like 4GB of downloaded maps for Autonavi, and that can take 2-3 hours to re-download it all again.
