Clearwire puts its money where its mouth is, announces LTE trials for later this year

This is great news! Although glad to be the first with "4G" i am a bit worried we will fall behind the curve when verizon and ATT get their LTE networks on the market.
 
This reminds me of HD DVD vs Bluray. HD DVD was first to the market but we all know who won. Hopefully, unlike HD DVD and bluray, Wimax and LTE can coexist. We'll probably end up seeing some sprint LTE phones sometime in 2011 (hopefully some LTE/Wimax phones)
 
LTE + Wimax + 3G = Triple Threat!
Hopefully this doesn't marginalize the Evo though. Good find!
 
This is good news. If sprint can offer both thay would be great. Have them expand wiimax first nationally with most major markets having it, than begin to expand LTE.
 
On engadget, it said testing was going to begin this fall in Phoenix. Does this mean Phoenix will finally be getting WiMax, or is this an LTE test only?
 
Rumor has it (from a BB mobile manager friend) that sprint is eventually going to switch over to LTE for wireless phones as the range is far better.

That what my dog told me as well...

The main word is "eventually." We all know WiMax is inferior to LTE, and once/if WiMax is phased out, Sprint has no choice except to move on to LTE or stick with 3G.
 
LTE and WiMax capable devises together would be cool but not sure anyone would do that. I've had Clear WiMax for internet since March and love it. Have both the Home and Mobile modems. So Far LTE looks like it might be more stable from the talk I have heard.
 
The reason the USA has such a crap mobile market is we are technologically unable to take advantage of unlocked phones and switch carriers. So if all the Big 4 here go with LTE we might finally have a chance at a real free market for mobile service in this country. Unless they cock it up with incompatible frequencies like AT&T vs T-Mobile 3G spectrum.

Inferior how? Please do explain. This one should be a doooosey.

Wimax and LTE will co-exist, as WiMax is a viable backhaul solution, which is just as important as the end user interface.
