Help Click on widget suddenly stopped working

I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro running MIUI 11 (Android 9) and it was working ok.
Until yesterday after updating a few apps with Google Play (not the home launcher apps), suddenly clicking on a widget on the home screen did not work. And a reboot did not help.
I use Nova launcher, but then I switched to the system miui launcher, but the problem persisted, so it is not the launcher ?
Presumably, a system setting is spontaneously changed without notice.
What can it be ?

You don't state which widget is failing. But have you tried removing the widget and adding it back onto your home screen?

If you long press on the widget you should get an option to remove it. Although I cannot be 100% sure of how your launcher works, you should be able to either long press in an empty space on your home screen or pinch to zoom out and get the option to add widgets back onto the home screen.

Thanks, but I found the solution myself.

The setting 'Display popup windows while running in the background' is new since MIUI 11 and is turned OFF by default.

This results in non-working widgets of some apps and also some tiles of MIUIfy were not working anymore.
Even the K9 mail widget was not working.
The Taskbar app (a very useful and lightweight quick launcher, which is not an actual launcher, but a popping up list of favorite apps) was also stuck.
I enabled 'pop up while running in the background' of these apps and the problem was fixed.

Hi. I have the same problem and I don't understand how you solved it. I lookd for the option in Settings and couldn't find it, I also downloaded the MIUI-ify app you show in the screenshot, but couldn't find that option.
