I found this app to be of most help w/clipping/copy/paste:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.rojekti.clipper&hl=en

The paid/PRO version even allows for syncing of clippings across all of your devices w/this app installed on each.

One of my favorite apps in the 2+ yrs I've been using ANDROID phones.

I'm sure others have suggestions/tips on using the stock clipboard .

Please stay tuned for others to chime in if loading another app on your phone isn't an option you're OK with.

Generally using the clipboard on Android involves long-pressing (holding your finger for a few seconds until something happens) on the text you want, then you select text, then a quick tap on the selected text brings up a menu, you choose copy; then where you want to paste you long-press a blank area and in the menu you choose paste.
