Root Clockwork Mod issue (similar to below)

Hi,
having issues with stock SF 2.1 with wifi so want to try 2.2..
Have rooted phone
Have installed CWM 4.5.0.1
CWM reports current recovery is ClockMod 5.0.2.0
Try to load new ROM but phone boots only to a little android man next to a triangle with an exclamation mark!...
I can get some (upside down) blue text by pressing home key which is a menu i can move up/down but not get out of, plus some yellow text "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Stuck there till battery out. phone restarts OK.
Same if I use CWM to reboot to recovery.

What's going wrong please guys?

Just confirm you have a gen 1 device, there are some versions of clockwork not compatible with certain versions of the OSF.

Download an app called Mr Pigfish from the market and it will tell you if you've a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 device.

thanks, I have confirmedits a Gen 1.
have looked deeper and seems I may need an earlier version of CWM - 3.0.1.4 so will try that.

Do you mean here you are using Rom Manager?? Current Version is 4.5.0.1.........this is not CWM

Do you mean that Rom Manager has flashed the latest Recovery.....5.0.2.0

You are using very confusing terminology, but understandable.

You have flashed a Recovery which is not compatible with your Gen 1 Device.

You can use Rom Manager to flash an earlier compatible Recovery version, but to do that you will need either a WiFi or Mobile Data connection....I recommend 3.0.1.4, which was the last Gen 1 ClockworkMod Recovery available, AFAIK.

I see in another thread you have no WiFi, due to your MAC Address not being available, and you cannot locate the athSavedEeprom.bin , which is where your device stores it's MAC address.

What is the current state of play now, do you have WiFi access now, have you succeeded in flashing a Gen 1 Recovery?

I ask so I can know where to start, we may need to TPT to Gen 2 and flash a Gen 2 ROM....this will also give you a suitable ClockworkMod Recovery.

You will not need a working Recovery to convert and install via TPT.

And there's a 3rd thread open, I think the other 2 threads should be directed to this thread so that conflicting advice is not given.

We all have different routes to getting to our destination, but it is better if we are all reading the same map at least.

all fixed now, I tried 3.0.1.4 to no avail but then re-downloaded the CWM and 3.0.0.8 (I think) recovery which worked and I installed a 2.2 ROM and now-
wifi works a treat and so deos everything else, better than before!
