Closing Programs on G1?

is there a way to close a program on the G1 because im not sure if thats the really my battery dies out very quickly i downloaded the program power management i turned off my gps wifi bluetooth when not in use but i want to know is there a way to close a program and make sure it is closed?
 
Some programs are designed to run in the background all the time. Some also have the option to be able to make them not run in the background. Is there a particular app you're having trouble closing?
 
not really but like for example lets say the camera app if i use the camera and press the home button is it still running or is it closed or maybe a game or browser im just wondering its not really a big deal now because my battery life is doing alot better since i downloaded program manager but its just something to know about the phone
 
I also wander this for the music player, if i keep going back to the home screen using the back button or simply press home, is it still open?
