CNN app questions

I'm a bit new to this, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and yesterday installed the CNN app. Fine. It works. But it works too well. It seems to try to update constantly and I couldn't find how to turn off the auto update. My contract doesn't give me much data and I also wanted to save some battery, so I uninstalled it. I'd like to re-install it *IF* I can control where/when it updates. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Why not just use http://m.cnn.com/ Updates only when you open it. Can add a homescreen bookmark link if you want to go to it directly.
