Root Coming from DX..advice?

Hey all,

Posting this here, because I figured you guys could give me the best advice..

Have searched all over the place - have received opinions and advice - but, would like to hear from some owners of the RAZR/RAZR MAXX..

I am coming from a DX on VZW - I have a RAZR MAXX showing up tomorrow.

I really do think that I am going to like the device based on the fact that I like Moto's build quality, reception, etc. - but, I do not want to be missing out on other smartphone key factors like screen quality, camera quality, etc.

It seems as though ICS helped the RAZR in terms of feel/smoothness/stock appearance..but, in terms of the other things i've mentioned (screen/cam,etc)..do any of you regret taking a RAZR over something like the Nexus/S3/something else?

Am I crazy for taking a new RAZR at this point in time (with my other options available now or in the near future)?

Only reason I ask all of this is that I want to be happy with/enjoy using my new purchase, have it get me to my next upgrade and not regret it.

Any information/insight would be greatly appreciated - sorry for being annoying!

Thanks!

I upgraded from a DX myself a few weeks back and haven't regretted it. There've been a couple of minor and some moderate headaches, but nothing huge.

I used Titanium Backup to move stuff from my old phone to the new one and it worked like a charm. Just be sure if you go that route to -not- restore anything in red or green.

I'm just trying to investigate all my options before locking in. I do get the 14 days to check it out - I'm thinking ICS has got to make the RAZR a player now. I don't even want to mention an iPhone - I was considering one, but don't think I could justify one as they aren't 4G, offer little to customize, etc.

I'm really thinking I'll take the 14 days and if I like it, great - if not, maybe an SGIII or possibly we'll have news on this rumored RAZR HD.

Keep the insight/suggestions coming folks, help a brother out!

realistically, the ridiculous battery life outweighs most of the minor drawbacks. how good do you REALLY expect a phone's camera to be? it's a phone, not a camera. you want pro-quality photo's? get a real camera*. the screen is ok. it's no retina display, and doesn't quite have the pixel density of an S3, but it's no slacker; it's a decent display. you'll see some pixelation when a movie or TV show or something goes to a full black screen, and it's because of the way OLED screen process those types of screens. they're not "true" blacks, they're made to LOOK black on LCD screens.

here's a pretty good link on displays and how to look at them:

*sorry, the people who complain that the camera on their phone isn't as good as their DSLR at home piss me off to no end, nothing personal.

i'd say go for battery life and call quality over any of the other frills. the device is first and foremost a telephone. if you can't get call reception for beans, you're going to regret getting it even if it's got perfect everything else. maybe that's just my opinion.
