This thread is to discuss the pros and cons of each travel app and recommend your favorite one(s). Please mention ones that aren't listed above in the poll too!

I'm not sure if "local" is the correct term to use but I'm just talking about apps like, Yelp!, WHERE, Google Places Directory, etc. I've downloaded most of them but, as with most things, there's a few things I like about each and none of them are "perfect" in my view. So I was just curious what everyone's opinion was when it came to all these apps and which one they like the best and why.

If there is already a thread about this, I do apologize. I searched the forums and did not find anything.

Not sure if it's the same type of thing you are looking for, but have you tried Layar? Probably not exactly what you are looking for, but it is very cool if your are in a new place or area...

I've looked at that and it is a fun app. However, I'm talking more about "Travel" apps I guess. Basically, I'm interested in seeing people's views on Yelp! vs WHERE vs Places vs Yellowpages vs (whatever applications that are similar) and why they prefer the one of the others.

To find local businesses I use Places and Yellow pages. They aren't perfect but they work.

So far the only one I like is on a BlackBerry and I think its called Poynt. I wish this would come to Android. When my ex got a BB I found this app for her and was amazed at how organized and all in one it is.

BlackBerry App World - Poynt

Yeah my father was telling me about Poynt that he has on his Storm. I just can't decide which app is the best out of the ones I know of (Where, Yelp!, Places, Yellow Pages, Aloqa, etc). I don't mind having two or so, I just don't want to have them all since that'd be kinda overkill. Right now I have Places (which I don't plan on getting rid of... I mean c'mon it's Google) and Yelp! But I liked many features that the others had. I'm just hoping someone will come along on here and tell me which what makes which ones better than the others.

I'm probably going to re-install them all again myself and give them another look through. So many choices. Lol

I've tried most of them and personally found Yelp and Aloqa the most useful. You might wanna also try bliquo or nru to see what suits you best. Good luck!

I think I've seen Bliquo before on the market but I searched for it and couldn't find it. Would you mind telling me what makes you like Yelp and Aloqa the best?

I guess it all depends on what you use for.. For example, Opentable is great for booking a place but I dont do that.. Aloqa seems to do everything for me including finding ATMs, gigs, coupons, etc. I've used it once to find a small cash machine in an isolated convenience store. Good to know how detailed the info can be. As for Yelp, it offers search filters like price range and opening hours (although not as good as the website) so I in that sense, its more useful than Places Directory. Just my $0.02
